An exciting new gallery is opening this week in the West Cork village of Schull. Organized by the dynamic Mizen Artists group, the gallery is a cooperative effort by the member artists to showcase the wide range of creativity and talent that exists on the Mizen Peninsula.
The group was formed earlier this year after several years of exhibiting together during the Art in Schull festivals. When the opportunity arose for a more permanent venue, they came up with the idea of a ‘pop-up’ gallery. The Blue House Gallery will be open for the next 3 months highlighting the work of both established and emerging artists who live in the area. The Gallery will stage a permanent show of work by all the artists as well as hold a series of one-man shows by individual members. Owned and operated by the members this is a cooperative venture that will help provide a platform for the development of the Arts in the area. There will be wide range of work on display from fine art photography, paintings, prints, jewellery sculpture and textiles. Artists involved are Ulli Crespo, John Doherty, Alyn Fenn, Carol Gilbert, Sheena Jolley, Hammond Journeaux, Brian Lalor, Kym Leahy, Nuala Mahon, Ann Martin, Chris O’Dell, Patricia Coogan O’Dell, Keith Payne, Nona Pettersen, Jorg Uschkamp, Julia Zagar.
The Mizen Artists group have a very informative website (www.mizenartists.com) where individual members each have a page showing their work and contact details.
