Art in Schull 2008

If you are in Schull in July, then the ‘Art in Schull’ Festival will be one of the highlights.  Come and meet some of the artists of West Cork face-to-face at our annual Festival, which this year will be held from Thursday 10th to Sunday 13th July.  West Cork teems with artists, craftspeople, writers, musicians and many more associated with the arts and we are pleased that Schull is able to bring them together.

Art in Schull began in 2001 as a joint venture between community arts group, Sult Scoil Mhuire and Schull Development Association and quickly took on a life of its own.   Art in Schull, now in its eighth year, promotes and celebrates artistic excellence and displays the work of professional artists for the public to experience within the local community.

"Art in Schull" encourages all genres of art and these are some of the highlights – look out for the full program and advertising nearer the time of the festival or check out schull.ie which will be continuously updated.

  • Businesses throughout the village, including pubs, restaurants, cafes and shop windows will showcase exhibitions of paintings.  You will have a chance visit these exhibitions and to meet the artists and talk to them about their work during the ‘Art Around Town’ evening on Friday 11th July.
  • The Schull Drama Group will perform a play on Saturday and Sunday evening.
  • A selection of Children’s Workshops will be held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and will include, Art , Drama and Felt Making.
  • An Art House film will be held during the week with an introduction by a mystery celebrity guest.
  • On Sunday from 10.00a.m. to 4.00p.m. Schull Country Market will host an Arts & Crafts market situated at the tennis courts on the entrance to Schull in conjunction with "Art in Schull".
