Skibbereen – The Famine Story Exhibition

Learn about the Great Famine of the 1840s when over one million Irish people died and another 1.5 million emigrated. Skibbereen was one of the worst affected areas in all of Ireland, a fact testified by the mass graves in Abbeystrowry near Skibbereen, where almost 10,000 victims are buried. This era is brought to life in a series of exhibits, dramatisations and interactive stations. Follow the Skibbereen Famine Story Walking Trail app to hear the experiences of the local people at sites in the town where the story unfolded.
